Position
Summary:
The Center for Environmental Studies' (CES) has a full-time, multiskilled facilities and grounds maintenance technician position at the Riverwoods Field Lab to ensure a clean safe and functional facility.
Riverwoods Field Lab is a 15-acre facility located on the Kissimmee River in Highlands County, Florida.
The position provides daily repairs to residential facilities and structures, grounds maintenance and management, field/boating support of the Riverwoods Field Lab, a comprehensive Education and Research Center, supporting the Kissimmee River Restoration, the largest river restoration in the world! The Facilities and Grounds Maintenance Technician position is responsible for handling details of the existing facility, as well as field support of the research program and scientist.
Maintenance responsibilities include pressure washing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, lawn care, and vehicle and small boat maintenance, as well as supervision of vendors.
The position requires carpentry training in order to perform minor repairs to buildings, plumbing, electrical and AC/heating.
The incumbent must also be capable of performing ongoing maintenance, minor engine repair and retrieval of stuck/broke vehicles or vessels from the field.
The management responsibilities include experience with purchasing, including estimates, material lists and preparation and requisitions for materials and services.

Residential maintenance responsibilities include:
Conduct facility repairs or contact a vendor to do the repairs when necessary including but not limited to electric, plumbing, roofing, A/C and carpentry troubleshooting & repair experience in order to repair buildings including an office, wet lab, conference center/classroom and overnight facilities.
Schedule routine facilities inspections and equipment servicing.
Keep records of safety inspections, health inspections, and fire Marshall inspections.
Grounds maintenance responsibilities include:
Lawn mowing and care.
Tree cutting and trimming.
Pressure washing and painting.
Field maintenance and support includes:
Inspecting the facility equipment for safety (vessels, vehicles, UTV's, mowers, generators).
Ability to repair small engines and boat engines and field equipment.
Ability to trailer and operate small boats and UTV's.
The position is responsible to provide on-site supervision of the Riverwoods Field Lab facility.
Incumbent must be self-motivated and detailed oriented.
CES provides required driving, boat safety and first aid/CPR training in order to operate state vehicles and boats.

A high school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in boats and small engines repair & maintenance.
Experience with lawn care.
Two years experience in residential repairs, using power tools, woodworking, and plumbing.
Computer literacy with Microsoft office programs (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and the internet.
Ability to lift 60 lbs.

Must have a valid driver's license.
Must complete a background check including fingerprinting.
Incumbent will be required enrollment in Maritime Consortium's Drug Free Vessel program.
